March Photo Challenge [Day Twenty-Seven]

Eek! I am without a camera for the evening (Josh is borrowing it for a work event), so I decided to work on some photoshop lessons.  Above is the original photograph, Quebec City, April 2014.   To the right is my play with color hue adjustment, contrast and obviously cropping.

March Photo Challenge [Day Eleven]

No sunlight, shallow depth of field.

The sun came out! Deep depth of field.

March Photo Challenge [Day Ten]

I love this picture, big snowflakes and a deep trench through the snow.  In hindsight I would have shifted to the right to see down the path to show the depth better.  I also would have framed a bit more of the background, the darkness of the figure could have been smaller and still balanced the scene.  (Thanks for being my "subject" Mom!)

March Photo Challenge [Day Six]

Photoshop has joined the topics I'm learning.  Today I played with contrast and levels making the picture much more dynamic and pleasing to the eye, I hope : )

March Photo Challenge [Day Four]

I've decided to add a little description to the pictures I post.  Especially on days like today when I want to show an interesting effect with two images.  The objects in these pictures were not moved between shots, showing the effect focal length has on compression.

Here I had the camera a few feet away from the table and used a focal length of 55, focusing on the yellow pitcher and with a shallow depth of field blurring out the foreground.  Notice how the three objects look close together.

Now I moved in close to the table shortening my focal length to 24, still focusing on the pitcher and keeping the shallow depth of field.  This time the space between the objects is longer giving a different feel to the image.

March Photo Challenge [Day One]

In order to put into practice all of the ideas I have been learning, I need to take more pictures, a lot more pictures.  So I've issued myself a challenge to post once a day an image or set of images, unedited and without words so as to have motivation and a reference to my work for the month of March.
